Archive for the ‘newsroom’ CategoryPound-for-pound King Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is now the world’s first boxer holding seven world titles in different division making his mother, Aling Dionesia very proud. The Filipino boxer won over Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto in a technical knockout decision. Referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight in the 12th round and Pinoys hailed when Pacman was announced winner on Saturday night in MGM Grand Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Pacquiao’s biological family - including his father who was separated with Aling Dionesia, were with him to watch his fight but as usual, Aling Dionesia she stayed in the hotel and prayed for his son’s victory. Pacquiao and mom are good example of people who believes in God. Their faith is so strong that’s why their prayers are answered. Their life story and experience shows us that with God in the center of our lives, nothing is impossible.
Sinnot was released this early morning, a few hours before US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visits the Philippines. I heard that Pound for Pound King Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is on the cover of Time Magazine (Asia). Is it true? If it is, then good. It’s Time Magazine and only few Pinoys were featured by the world known mag. If I remember it right, the late President Corazon Aquino was on Time’s cover twice - during her reign and after she died a few months ago. But did you know that the first ever Filipino on cover was the late President Manuel Quezon published on November 1935? On the other hand, General Emilio Aguinaldo was the first Filipino featured in Time (You can check it here). Featured also were late Presidents Manuel Roxas, Ramon Magsaysay and Ferdinand Marcos. In addition, stories about theater actress Lea Salonga, Billiard King Efren “Bata” Reyes, Bowling King Paeng Nepomuceno were also published by Time. Can you tell me some more Pinoys in Time Magazine?
Tropical Cyclone Santi (international name: Mirinae) hits Metro Manila and other parts of the country last night. Good news! The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that typhoon Ramil (international name Lupit) turned away from the Philippines and now heads toward Japan. It didn’t make landfall in Cagayan though the residents experienced storm surge and rains. At least, the third typhoon did not add another burden to our fellowmen hardly hit by typhoon Pepeng. Thanks God! Typhoon Ondoy caused tremendous flood in Metro Manila and typhoon Pepeng which for the second time made landfall in the Philippines left some place in North Luzon, particularly the Cordillera Administrative Region and parts of Central Luzon, under mud and water.
Bloggers in the United States need to reveal their freebies and paid online commentary or they will face a hefty fine of up to $11,000. Oh, the fine is too big than what they can earn online on a monthly basis, isn’t it? They must abide the new guidelines of the US Federal Trade Commission to avoid more damages. From an AFP report, FTC Secretary Donald Clark states that, “The post of a blogger who receives cash or in-kind payment to review a product is considered an endorsement.” This is based on the 81-page notice of revised guidelines by the FTC.
The Lakas-Kampi-CMD Party executive committee endorses Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro over MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, as their standard-bearer for the 2010 Presidential elections. So, we now have two official presidential candidates and they are Sen. Noynoy Aquino for Liberal Party and Sec. Gibo Teodoro for the ruling party Lakas-Kampi-CMD. Who will be next on the list? Let’s wait and see.
