During my heydays, I was never health conscious. Like most people, I have feasted on foods rich in high density fats, high calorie diet. I am a self-confessed caffeine addict though I drink water (less than the amount my body needs).
When I reached 30, I promise to improve my diet and well-being - before it’s too late - and this means changing menu. MORE or LESS, here’s what I’m targeting to do.
Less meat - Though I can’t easily chew vegetables and changing habit is not easy at all, I’ll try my very best to attain eating less meat. Although I have read more articles connecting red meat to certain diseases like cancer, I believe the best way to do is to limit meat intake. I won’t totally discard eating meat because it also gives us good nutrition too.
More water - After giving birth, I noticed that I enjoyed colas again than water. So I am battling to drink more water this year and hopefully forget soft drinks. Maybe I should drink two glasses in the morning, lunch, noontime break and dinner or before going to bed. Will it suffice?
Less salt - I nibble salt. Yes, it’s a habit I can’t resist. I love salty dried fish dipped in calamansi with fish sauce. Since at my age, I can be prone to high blood and salt is known as a factor for it, I think I have to savor more on less salty foods and stop nibbling salt like pica-pica.
More fruits - Aside from chocolate after meal or junk foods during break time, I will try to bring fruits in the office (an apple or banana will do). Fruits are known to be a good source of vitamins and its fibers can help in proper digestion.
I’m doing this for good…for my health and well-being.
